Library of Things – DUE TO OPEN MARCH 2022

ONE TIME USER

£5 one off donation

Choose this one if…

  • You’re sure you’ll only need to borrow from us the one time.
  • You want a low upfront cost.
  • You’d like to try out ECEH at a lower cost before committing to more.

One-Time-User members pay full price to borrow items, which makes this the least cost-efficient option for frequent borrowers. If you think you’ll borrow once, this might be the best choice for you. However, if you plan to borrow more frequently, or are in need of larger and more costly items, consider the other membership levels.

If you’re not sure how much you’ll enjoy being part of ECEH, a One-Time-User membership can also be a good way to sign up at a low cost and “trial” the service before jumping in. This membership expires after the first borrow.

You really love ECEH and want to support us!

Our supporters receive the same benefits as standard members, but they’re individuals who have chosen to give us a very generous donation as well! We’re very grateful to all our subscriber members for their fantastic generosity. If you have some spare cash, want to support a community resource and/or we’ve been a big help to you, we’d love to see you become a supporter.

What is a Library of things?

Like the library in your town that loans out books, a Library of Things (LoT) lends various useful items to its members in the local community BUT for a small fee and the ‘Things’ have mostly been donated.

Is there a difference between a LOT and a traditional hire Shop?

Yes. There are a few differences between a hire shop and a LOT.

  • Our Elmbridge Library of Things in Walton is non-profit and aims to be a community action group, rather than a commercial business;
  • The Elmbridge LOT in Walton contains a wide range of ‘Things’, including many that a hire shop would not stock;
  • It loans ‘Things’ out for less money than a hire shop would, making it affordable to more people;
  • The Elmbridge Community Eco Hub aims to encourage a behavioural, economic and ecological change in the area, helping people to reduce waste, through the LOT and all of the other initiatives we facilitate at the Hub.

What types of things are available to loan?

We will stock a wide range of items, most of which have been donated by members of the community. Items they no longer need, that people don’t have room to store, or they have upgraded to a newer/shinier model.

What do I need to do to be able to borrow from the Elmbridge Community Eco Hub LOT?

To borrow from Library of Things, you need :

  • To be at least 18 years old
  • To have an email address. We use this to send you receipts and important information about your loan.
  • You must sign the Liability Waiver during the online sign-up process.
  • You must bring at least one form of photo ID that has your current full time home address with you when you first use us. We will save a copy of this onto the LOT server to identify you for future loans.

Do I need to live in Elmbridge to use the LOT?

No. You can come from as far as you like, though you may have a LOT/share shed more locally, so do check before making the journey.  One thing to consider is that all items must be collected and returned to us.

How do I pay for membership and loans?

You can pay for your membership and make your loan donations either by cash or card. For card payments we use a payment processing provider called Stripe. Stripe is a PCI Service Provider Level 1, which is the highest grade of payment processing security. If you are having difficulty making a payment, please contact us at info@elmbridgeecohub.org.uk

The Rules

  1. We want the LOT to work for everyone, so please bring your loan back on time.
  2. Bring your item back in at least as good a condition as when you borrowed it. We dont want to spend valuable time, money and resource cleaning/repairing items due to neglect.
  3. Tell us immediately if you find a problem with the ‘Thing’ you have borrowed. Please do not use it if it is broken and or dangerous to use.
  4. Make sure you know how to use the ‘Thing’ properly. Please ask for help before you leave The Hub, and read the instructions provided. ***Remember you are the only person permitted to use the item.***
